India seems to be slowly becoming the hotbed of co-branded handsets. While earlier, this phenomenon was mostly limited to CDMA players, it’s now slowly trickling in to GSM networks as well.
In the latest addition, Tata DoCoMo has announced the launch of its first co-branded handset in India. Called the OneTouch Net, the phone is made by Alcatel. The phone is full QWERTY device with support for a host of social networking websites. It has a 2.4-inch display and is fully customized for Yahoo services and supports services like Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Contacts and Calendar, Yahoo Homepage, Yahoo Search with Voice, Yahoo Social Pulse and Flickr. The phone also has two dedicated buttons that will take the user directly to the Tata Docomo Dive In WAP portal and to the Yahoo services page.
Other features include a BlackBerry-esque optical trackpad, a 2 megapixel camera, an MP3 player, support for FM radio and Bluetooth for connectivity. The phone comes with 80MB of memory which can be expanded to 8GB using microSD cards.
Tata DoCoMo is offering this phone under both pre-paid and post-paid options. The post paid bundle has two packages. One worth Rs. 199 and another that costs Rs. 299 per month. Post paid users also get a Reebok watch worth Rs. 2,499 – free.
The phone is available in two colors ‘White & Lavender’ and ‘Black & Silver’ and will be priced at Rs. 5,499.
